CHALLENGE BLS
Challenge BLS means:
BLS ride time is open ended
meaning there is no set amount. There is a minimum of eight hours and no
maximum.
If the student is not known to me
they need to be cleared for BLS assessment, which amounts to showing me a BLS
detailed physical exam. The student can then book ride time, though FISDAP in
the usual way.
It is challenged at the time the
student and the Preceptor agree that the students BLS is sound - which is
often at the time of the one and only shift - the eight hours, but not
always. Students have done eight hours and students have done 200 hours of
BLS. The BLS ride time sign off sheet is on your website. The sheet is
specific in that skills not seen/performed, and clearly not all will come up
in one or more shifts - need to be comfortable for the student and Preceptor.
This can be done though discussion during the shift in down time or by the
student being known to the Preceptor. When the Preceptor signs off the
student ride time shifts to ALS ride time and that chunk can start to be
knocked off. I may or may not consult with your Preceptor before accepting
the sign off depending on whether I know them or not.
Noteworthy you CAN perform ALS
skills, if signed off for same during BLS ride time and count them. You just
can't count it against ALS ride time.
